RINA Consulting S.p.A. – RINA-C
RINA is a global corporation that offers a wide range of high quality tailored solutions in the energy, marine, certification, transport & infrastructure and industry sectors. The corporation activities contribute to developing the qualitative level of the market by adopting measures to protect health and safety, and to improve the wellbeing of society building value for future generations. RINA is the project coordinator of SunHorizon and its main role in the project will be the development of new design methodologies for H&C appliances based on technical normative and on local demand through a design under uncertainty approach, that will be applied also in replication strategies.
Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives – CEA
The Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives is the French Atomic and Alternative Energy Commission. It is a leading European RTO with more than 16.000 employees and 10 centres in France. The Commission is one of Europe’s newest and most important research center in the new energy technology field. It covers the complete value chain of photovoltaics (material, cells, modules, solar systems, and storage systems) and energy efficiency in buildings (thermal systems, equipment control strategies, indoor environment quality, innovative multi-purpose envelope components). The team focuses on thermal systems, develops management and control strategies of any complex electricity system for efficient smart thermal grid integration or stand-alone operation.
VEOLIA– VEO
VEOLIA is an Energy and Environmental Service Company, mainly dedicated to the maintenance, preservation and improvement of buildings, facilities and complexes of different nature in order to improve comfort, performance and security at lower cost. With its core business of “smart power management” VEO has gained a leading position in the areas of energy management and energy savings and CO2 emission control. VEO provides innovative solutions for sustainable development of cities and companies, through the control and maintenance of district H&C networks, industrial utilities and energy services in buildings and facilities. It uses a dual approach: one for the technical tasks related to Madrid and Sant Cugat demonstration, for the activities on business models development, and on replication and exploitation activities; another for the stakeholders engagement thanks to its involvement in several H2020 projects.

Schneider Electric is a global specialist in energy management with operations in more than 100 countries. It performs integrated solutions across multiple market segments. They include leadership positions in energy and infrastructure, industrial processes, building automation and data centres / networks, as well as a broad presence in residential applications. Schneider worldwide leading position is to make energy safer with power and control; reliable through critical power and cooling; efficient with energy efficiency; productive with industrial, building and home automation; green through renewable energy solutions. The subsidiary in Italy offers products, equipment and services for ICT solutions for infrastructures, building & residential markets, and industry.
Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche – ITAE
The National Research Council (CNR) is the main Italian research public organisation. It aims is to carry out, promote, spread, transfer and improve research activities in the main sectors of knowledge growth and of its applications for the scientific, technological, economic and social development of the Country. Since 1980, ITAE has long proven experience in environmentally friendly production, storage and use of energy. In fact, it contributes to the development and penetration of technologies related to energy saving, low polluting energy production, renewable energy sources, hydrogen and fuel cells in Italy and Europe. The research activity is based on multidisciplinary knowledge, such as chemistry, physics, engineering, and is aimed at the study of the synthesis and material properties of the processes as well as the realisation of prototypes and their application.
FAHRENHEIT GmbH– FAHR
Founded in 2002, as a spin-off company of Fraunhofer Institute of Solar Energy Systems (ISE), Fahrenheit is the pioneering company in small capacity adsorption chillers. Since the beginning, it has a strong emphasis on research and development, putting an R&D base at the core of Fahrenheit business. By consequence, Fahrenheit GmbH holds currently 22 national and international patent families on thermal refrigeration and technological solutions utilising solid sorbents like silica gel and zeolite. Since market introduction, Fahrenheit sold more than 500 units of small capacity adsorption chillers based on silica gel – water.
FUNDACION CARTIF – CARTIF
Fundación CARTIF is a leading Spanish Applied Research Centre in terms of R&D and technology transfer activities created in 1994 formed up by some 150 researchers. Its participation in international activities is promoted through the R&D Programmes Department and has been materialised in the current participation in 47 on-going international projects, including 20 projects from H2020 (4 of them coordinated). CARTIF will be leader on modelling and management activities in SunHorizon project.
IES R&D – IES
IES are developers of the world’s leading integrated building performance modelling software system the “Virtual Environment”. It is a suite of building performance modelling tools based around a single integrated data model. The purpose of the system is to provide the high quality information required to design, build and operate better performing, more sustainable communities. It can be applied from the earliest stages of the design right through to operation. The “Virtual Environment” is used today by many of the world’s leading architectural and engineering practices and in recent years has been proliferating at a very rapid rate due to the unique ability to improve decision making and workflow.
IVL Svenska Miljöinstitutet AB – IVL
IVL is an independent, non-profit research organisation. Since 1966 it has worked with development of solutions to environmental problems nationally and internationally. It focuses its research and contract assignments notably in natural resources, climate and environment, resource-efficient recycling and consumption, sustainable production and environmental technology, sustainable urban development and transport. The organisation has great knowledge on the estimation of environmental impact, air pollution and social acceptance of different technologies. In fact, IVL will provide support on business modelling, environmental impact analysis and social acceptance.
European Heat Pump Association – EHPA
Established in 2000, the European Heat Pump Association represents the majority of the European heat pump industry. Its members comprise of heat pump and component manufacturers, research institutes, universities, testing labs and energy agencies. It aims to promote awareness and proper deployment of heat pump technology in the European market for residential, commercial and industrial applications. All EHPA activities wants to overcome market barriers and disseminate information to speed up market development of heat pumps for heating, cooling and hot water production. The association actively monitors current EU and National legislation developments and provides technology related knowledge to actors in the policy-making process.
TVP Solar SA – TVP
TVP Solar SA is a Swiss company which designs, develops, manufactures and markets innovative, high– vacuum flat solar thermal panels based on a proprietary technology for cooling and heating applications. The company is a game–changer in the solar thermal industry. Therefore, it effectively competes with fuel and electricity for large–scale, energy–demanding applications, such as air conditioning, process heat, desalination. Also, it drives several process heat and steam for oil industry-specific applications in extraction, refining and transportation. TVP Solar is constantly developing new solar collectors, based on high vacuum insulation, to address specific challenges in mid- and small- scale applications for solar H&C of residential and commercial buildings.
DualSun – DS
DualSun is a manufacturer dedicated in PV-T modules production, for instance PVT systems and prediction of PVT performances. It conceives all its products and has developed and certified within 3 years a stainless steel version (2014) then a polymeric version 3 years after (2017). DualSun will finalise and provide prototypes from an incremental innovation on its polymeric version for the NB building identified for this project with PV/T needs. The fittings will be easier to connect and the photovoltaic will evolve to reach up to 300Wc leading to a redesign the assembly. It will provide its expertise for the systems development for the PV/T side and gives preconisation for the monitoring.
CheckWatt AB – CW
CheckWatt is providing metering and data visualisation services. Currently, about 5000 people in Sweden are using the tool EnergyInBalance.com (Android and iPhone app ‘EIB Solar’) for building energy efficiency modelling and monitoring energy output from solar PV installations. In SunHorizon CW will develop and validate consumer-centric Building Energy Management System to maximise Renewable Energy Sources self-consumption and promotion of ECO-COMFORT concept.
AJUNTAMIENTO DE SANT CUGAT DEL VALLES – AJSCV
The city of Sant Cugat del Vallès is located in the region of Catalonia, Spain. It is a municipality of around 80.000 inhabitants that enjoys a privileged natural environment and urban green landscape with a strong commitment to sustainability. According to its Smart City Strategy, Sant Cugat has also been one of the pioneer cities in Spain promoting the City Protocol Society. It is an international forum that invites the city councils, industry, research organisations and other agencies involved in city transformation to work together in order to share knowledge and experiences in the sustainable transformation of urban spaces. This cross-sector partnership focuses on the establishment of international standards and politics that should drive the sustainable development of cities.
BDR Thermea Group BV – BDR
BDR Thermea Group is a world leading manufacturer and distributor of smart climate and sanitary hot water solutions. The Group operates in more than 82 countries worldwide, employing around 6,500 people across Europe. BDR’s role will be to provide expertise in the field of heat pumps for heating, cooling and domestic hot water applications. Its activity will be in the provision of compact solutions for residential buildings as well as the monitoring of heat pump operation in a solar system.
RATIOTHERM HEIZUNG + SOLARTECHNIK GMBH & CO. KG – RATIOTHERM
RATIOTHERM is a small producer of heating components like heat pumps, tanks, solar plates, controllers etc. It aims to promote and design very innovative, customisable products. Through its skills in building tanks for heat storage and their know-how around the whole system, RATIO can provide the perfect solution for each SunHorizon demo site and technology package for what it concerns Thermal Energy Storage hot water tanks, especially considering that their tank provides perfect characteristics for solar and HP applications.
RIGAS TEHNISKA UNIVERSITATE – RTU
Riga Technical University is the largest technological university and the leading multidisciplinary research institution in the Baltic states. The priority areas for research set by RTU are energy & environment, cities & development, transport, materials, processes & technologies, information & communication, security & defence. RTU will contribute to all of the work packages with a focus on organising the demonstration activities in the northern demo sites. Also, it will work on the implementation and testing the methodologies and tools developed during the project. These tasks overlap very well with the core competencies of RTU which combines expertise in power engineering and cost-benefit analysis of energy projects.
EMPRESA MUNICIPAL DE LA VIVIENDA Y SUELO DE MADRID SA – EMVS
The Madrid Municipal Housing and Land Company is a publicly owned corporation whose sole shareholder is the Madrid City Council. It has an experience of over 30 years working in the field of real estate development and land management with a track record of nearly 30.000 dwellings in Madrid. EMVS’s aims to change the idea that subsidized housing stands for low quality, focusing on a new approach that associates quality of life with social housing. It worked to build quality public housing at affordable prices. The Madrid City Council through EMVS has stayed a step ahead of legislation in terms of innovation and sustainability, setting the benchmark for the creation of quality sustainable housing. EMVS will be in charge of the implementation of the project results into an existing real-life building in Tres Peces Street, Madrid Downton (Spain).
UNIVERSITATEA TEHNICA CLUJ-NAPOCA – TUCN
The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca is one of four universities with a technical profile in Romania classified as “University of advanced research and education”. Moreover, it is nationally accredited by the ARACIS Ministry of Research as a “high degree of confidence”.
